Gananoque is the Canadian gateway to the world-famous Thousand Islands. This picturesque town at the junction of the Gananoque and St. Lawrence Rivers has roots that reach deep into the British settlement of Upper Canada in the 18th century. It was first settled by Canada's native peoples, but by the 1780s, loyalist settlers had arrived and over the next century the town became a bustling centre of trades and manufacturing and supported the surrounding agricultural region.

At one point Gananoque was known as the "Birmingham of Canada", with wharves, warehouses and manufacturing lining the Gananoque River. Today, our beautiful St-Lawrence River waterfront is dedicated to pleasure watercraft and tourist activities, and if you take walk along the swing bridge, you will see vestiges of its earlier industrial era on the Gananoque River.
Today, Gananoque boasts a historic downtown, local shopping, art galleries, a popular and respected playhouse, a casino as well as inviting restaurants and pubs. Thousand Islands boat tours are a very popular summertime activity with boats cruising amid the beautiful islands and stopping at some of the notable ones where you can visit castles and mansions of a bygone era. Please visit our Things To Do section for more information on these great activities. Manse Lane Bed and Breakfast is situated perfectly within easy walking distance of most of these sites.
